Forestry Management Audit and Certification
Purchasers of timber are increasingly interested in where the product they buy comes from, and how it has been produced. This relates to the raw material and the end-of-line products. Purchasing decisions are based on many criteria including fitness for purpose, price, delivery capacity, location, as well as the forestry management practices employed in the growing and harvesting of the trees from which the wood products are sourced.
The principal reassurance that consumers (or retailers) are seeking is that the forests or plantations supplying particular wood products are being well managed. The quality of forest management may be summarized by its sustainable management practices.
SAI Global’s expert auditors and accredited certification processes provide Forestry Managers with the ability to declare that their forests meet recognized standards of best practice.
In addition, the certification scheme is mutually recognized by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC). This provides SAI Global certified clients with international recognition of their sustainable practices forestry management practices.
SAI Global is also able to undertake audits to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)® Chain of Custody Standard through its association with wholly owned subsidiary company QMI-SAI Global Assurance Services as the accredited service provider.
