From RMC Services
R.M.C. has started a program to collect all types of battery waste, using permitted transports on 'milk runs'. This milk run program allows for receiving battery waste from a number of different generators on the same transport. The transportation cost is thereby shared, resulting in a freight savings.
Waste items such as batteries should be disposed of on a regular basis. Prolonged storage can result in the eventual rupture and breakdown of the battery cells. A good rule of thumb is to ship them out every 90-180 days.
The milk run was designed to reduce the overall cost of recycling, while allowing the generator to remain in compliance with all regulations. Freight savings have been substantial, where routing has been established.
