The market demands more

As wealth and GNP grew, so did the appetite for meat while the world population boomed. As such, automation came at just the right time – and TEWE found a gap in the market with its focus on fully automated feeding systems, in particular for pigs, which it has filled since 1983. The number of livestock animals in Germany alone meant this needed to be a success, which would hardly have been possible without advancements in feeding technology.

According to the Federal Office of Statistics, there were 10.8 million cattle, 22.3 million pigs and 167 million poultry birds being kept and fed in Germany’s 161,730 livestock farms in 2023. All of these animals require a total of 80 million tonnes of feed in grain units (1 grain unit is equivalent to the nutrient content of 100 kg of grain) per year. The feed is supplemented with a combination of nutrients, minerals and proteins which incorporates the latest findings in nutritional research and is optimised for the needs of the animals. In addition, European animal feed legislation sets quality and safety requirements which feeds are obliged to meet.
