CoolmerchantMisting Systems for Winemaking

SHARE

Cellars of wine and other alcoholic beverages, during certain periods, face a very serious problem from inappropriate humidity levels, with the logical consequence of the natural evaporation of the wine. The quality and quantity of the wine is affected, which leads to large monetary losses both in labor costs to refill the barrels and in the product that evaporates. Cellars lose up to 15% of the value of their wine per year due to insufficient humidity levels while wine quality is dramatically reduced by improperly functioning wooden barrels due to dehydration. Wooden barrels should be stored in a dark environment with constant humidity levels between 65% and 85%. Humidity levels below 65% lead to a high risk of barrel dehydration.

COOLMERCHANT`s misting system is installed in the cellar to naturally solve the problem of moisture and wine loss. It sprays water droplets smaller than 10 microns into the atmosphere through specialized high pressure pumps. COOLMERCHANT`s misting system maintains the temperature at the desired level and also keeps the humidity level constant between 65% and 85% on a 24-hour basis using specialized electronic equipment such as thermostats, hygrostats and remote control through the special plc system that instructs the system to maintain constant humidity level at the percentage we want.

A normal wooden barrel contains about 250 liters of wine. If we accept a 15% of the annual evaporation we lose 37.5 liters of wine per barrel. Calculating an average price of 10 euros per liter, we are led to losses of up to 375 euros per barrel per year! Therefore, a medium-sized cellar with about 100 barrels, records losses of the order of 37,500 euros per year! Considering the low cost of installation and operation of an innovative misting system, we confidently conclude that the investor will be able to pay back his investment immediately, while the cellar will continue to save a considerable amount of money every year.
