Hydroflux engaged to design wastewater treatmentplant for New WA abattoir - Brochure
Courtesy of Hydroflux Pty Ltd
The first abattoir to operate in Western Australia's far north for 22 years will be opening early 2016.
The Kimberley Meat Company abattoir, located between Broome and Derby, will process 300 cattle a day when it opens in April.
Owner Mr Burton said 'the facility was good news for the northern WA beef industry and getting a situation where we can process them locally is excellent.'
An estimated 300 kl_ of wastewater per day will be generated by the abattoir when in full production.
Hydroflux were engaged to design and construct the wastewater treatment plant and the treated wastewater will irrigated onto nearby land. The overall process involves treatment of the red and green streams firstly by removing solids in a 1mm in channel HUBER rotary screen. Wastewater is then pumped from a small buffer tank to a Hydroflux Hy-DAF HD35 at a variable rate to minimise the residence time and maximise the nitrogen removal efficiency.
The HD20 system is manufactured from stainless steel with a unique counter current scraping system to maximise sludge dryness. The fully enclosed guarding system allows cleaning to be conducted without the possibility of water spray on surrounding equipment.
The treated wastewater flows into facultative ponds prior to irrigation.
