HTI - Model 980-Series - Marine-Focusesd Acoustic Tags
From Acoustic Tags
A breakthrough in marine fisheries research, the recently released 980-Series Acoustic Tags are specifically designed for tracking aquatic life in marine environments. Unlike other systems, researchers can track hundreds of fish in one area at the same time. They are immune to tag signal collision and data loss. Having the ability to track hundreds of fish simultaneously without compromising collected data while at the same time having a fine-scale resolution (to 20 cm) and broad ranges at over a kilometer was previously non-existent.

Product Details
Why 80 kHz? Previous studies in acoustic tag frequency for use in marine environments focused primarily on tag size/tag range trade-offs due to absorptions. Scientists have recently learned (e.g., NOAA Fisheries NW Fisheries Center studies) that another factor to possibly consider is the frequency that marine mammal predators, in particular harbor seals, can detect some acoustic tag emmissions resulting in increased fish predation. See 'Dinner Bell Effect'. At 80 kHz, scientists have found the best compromise for maximizing tracking resolution and range while being outside of the auditory ranges of most marine mammals.
Similar to HTI's freshwater-focused acoustic tags at307 kHz, the 80 kHz tags are also user-programmable and work with HTI's Acoustic Tag Tracking Systems offering an efficient means of remotely tracking fish in 3D or 2D with fine-scale (to 20 cm) resolution. View data via mobile device (e.g., smart phones or tablet) for immediate access from anywhere in the world.
To identify tags out-of-water or after battery life has expired, an Acoustic / PIT Tag option is available for all HTI Acoustic Tags.
