A little idea that grew
Source: Midwest Fabrication Pty Ltd.
A few decades ago Queensland grain farmer Martin Schutt was sitting behind the wheel of his harvester thinking… 'There’s got to be a better way'. He sketched some designs, built a prototype, tested and trialled it, and after years of determination and drive, eventually brought the concept to market.
The rest, they say, is history. In 1998, Midwest Fabrication built the world’s first 40ft centre mounted platform which later become the industry standard and in 2014 was the first company to bring 60ft harvesting platform to market.
Today Midwest is a nationally recognised award-winning firm and a worldwide market leader in harvesting platforms. The intergenerational business is now steered by Martin`s daughter Amy Wilkins and son Craig Schutt who work alongside their father. Over the years Midwest has picked up numerous accolades including Farm Innovation Award, Best Australian Agricultural Machine, Best new Innovation award, Queensland Big Idea Winner and Dalby Business of the Year.
The Midwest team has taken their passion for the land, knack for innovative engineering, appetite for research and development and process management, and turned it into increased productivity for farmers and contractors making their living off the land.
