Investors save the rainforest

In the current financial climate, investors are looking for sustainable products and safe commodities. That is why Silva Tree S.A., a conservation and reforestation initiative, have come up with a new way to raise capital for their rainforest project.

They sell parts of the land to investors and in return the investors receive rights to a share of the carbon offset credits produced. With returns of over 15% per annum, everyone is happy.

“Carbon will be the world’s biggest commodity market, and it could become the world’s biggest market over all,” according to Mr. Redshaw, head of environmental markets at Barclays Capital.

As an investment product, this is something fresh, green and exciting. It is the first project of its kind to be opened up to private investors, with a small minimum investment amount.

'For the first time, anyone can be a part of this hugely profitable market, not just the business giants and governments' says Marketing Director Keren Katz.

Green investments are already highly successful but usually involve a middle man, this is the first time that independent investors are able to buy into something without the help of an investment fund or similar vehicle.

Companies can also take advantage of the project by buying land to offset their carbon footprint rather than buying credits, as a part of the Silva tree 'Grow your own credits' scheme.
